Ben Blodgett
From carpenter to company leader, Ben blends real-world craftsmanship with design-build expertise to create enduring spaces and lasting trust.
From Carpenter to Owner
Ben Blodgett’s journey to leading TDS Design Build began with carpentry, where he learned how structures come together one board and joint at a time. Growing up on a small farm in rural Indiana, collaboration and resourcefulness weren’t abstract ideals—they were part of everyday life. Those early lessons in hands-on problem solving and shared responsibility continue to shape how Ben approaches building today: with an eye for detail, a respect for process, and a belief that great spaces are the result of thoughtful teamwork.
That blend of hands-on experience and leadership means Ben approaches projects from both sides of the table. He sees what others might miss—the joinery, the workflow, and the lived-in rhythms—and pairs that insight with big-picture clarity. His goal is simple but ambitious: spaces designed for real life, delivered through a defined process that keeps budgets, schedules, and client expectations in sync.
Leading Through Craft
Ben’s foundation as a carpenter continues to shape how he leads TDS today. He champions the firm’s design-build process, ensuring that every decision—from planning through construction—is grounded in thoughtful, buildable execution. From the first conversation to the final walk-through, he helps clients understand not only what will be built, but why. Under his leadership, the six-step TDS process—Connect, Design, Develop, Prepare, Build, Enjoy—has become a clear, client-friendly roadmap that guides both team and homeowner.
For Ben, building well is not a niche but a responsibility. He pushes the team to deliver thoughtful, durable work that prioritizes comfort, efficiency, and long-term value. His leadership also defines the culture of TDS: clear communication, respect for trade partners, and a spirit of collaboration where designers and craftspeople work as one team.

Beyond the Build
Outside of TDS, Ben’s life is centered around family, place, and time spent outdoors. He shares life with his wife, Sara, and his stepson, Wylan. Ben and Sara were married at their family cabin in Wisconsin’s Driftless Region, followed by a later celebration with friends and family. Ben continues to spend hands-on time caring for the cabin and his home in town, alongside road trips, backpacking, and canoe trips that help him slow down, reset, and stay grounded. At home, his dog Rio is a constant companion, usually close by as Ben plans the next project or adventure.
