A Spacious Ranch Remodel on Madison’s West Side

Joanna and Jack’s 1950s ranch is located on a beautiful tree-lined street in the heart of Madison’s Westmorland neighborhood within walking distance of the arboretum, the zoo, golf courses, and the restaurants and shops of Monroe Street.

The home’s footprint was the perfect size for them and their rescue dogs, but the floor plan was choppy, and the kitchen was outdated and falling apart. They needed help updating their home to create a fun and functional space for living and entertaining.

Our architects opened up the floor plan to allow light and traffic to flow throughout the kitchen, dining, and sitting rooms — making entertaining and working from home easier and more enjoyable.

A Kitchen That is Anything But Cookie Cutter

White, floor-to-ceiling custom kitchen cabinets create ample storage space, allowing for more room for homey touches like open shelving and a prep area next to the Wolf ovens and cooktop ovens.

The cabinetry creates an airy feel without pulling focus from the bold azure island, white HanStone® quartz countertops, and sunny, handmade tile from Fireclay — selections that reflect Joanna and Jack’s fun, welcoming personality and style.

A Vibrant and Lively Space

The bold colors of the kitchen are tied into the dining and living room areas, creating a harmonious and warm palette throughout the home. An additional island wraps around a dining and living room divider. We used the same color as the kitchen island and added a Zephyr beverage fridge to create more space for entertaining.

From start to finish, we knew what to expect, when things would happen, and when they would be completed. With a project this big, that’s really important. Every step in the process was well thought out, and every person we dealt with was knowledgeable and committed to our project. We felt like our opinions and feedback were welcomed – even when we changed our minds on things! It felt like a truly collaborative project.
