Love Your Team, Love Your Results

Ian Schwandt, Christi Weber and Ben Blodgett Discuss Around Table

Christi Weber, Director of Design + Architect Explains How TDS Delivers Results You’ll Love Through Its Design-Build Process

Unlike the conventional construction process, where homeowners must coordinate separate design and construction teams, TDS integrates both under one roof. This cohesive approach ensures a harmonious process that transforms your vision into a reality. Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes—and who it takes—to execute your dream space.

Lifelong Learners & Active Adapters

TDS approaches its Design-Build process with a commitment to continuous evolution and improvement. Viewing every project as a chance to learn, TDS gathers feedback throughout the process and conducts surveys with all stakeholders to adapt and refine its methods. No two projects are identical, and TDS thrives on this variability by fine-tuning its systems to remain flexible, adaptable, and reliable—while delivering consistent results for every client.

We’ve done a lot of work to define processes and systematize things. At TDS, we’re all in the same boat, rowing in the same direction.

Systemizing and refining processes is key to delivering exceptional results and creating a smooth building experience—and it all begins with the right team.

Building a Team That Builds

As the saying goes, “You’re only as good as your team.” TDS takes this to heart, focusing on thoughtful hiring, ongoing training, and regular performance reviews to build a team aligned with its core values. Among these values: being engaged team players and curious lifelong learners.

Loving your team—the people you work with daily on complex, high-stakes projects—is essential. At TDS, teamwork truly makes the dream work. Exceptional communication skills are a cornerstone of the Design-Build process, ensuring seamless collaboration and consistently exceeding client expectations.

Information Stewards to Stay on Track

Effective information gathering and sharing are critical from the first step of the Design-Build process. These early design phases set the tone for the entire project, determining whether it succeeds or falters. Translating the client’s vision to architects—and vice versa—requires precision and open communication, which is where TDS’s Designers excel.

You get a lot of information in the first meeting. We spend time talking in detail about things like, ‘Why do you want to do this? What are you hoping to achieve? Tell me about how you use your space on a daily basis. How do you move through it? How does your family use it?

What sets the Design-Build process apart from conventional construction processes is its deliberate attention to every moving part, starting on day one. Designers account for the client’s vision, budget, architectural considerations, material lead times, and more before the design even begins to take shape.

We’re not operating in a vacuum here. We have to consider our team—how our actions affect others and how their actions affect us. That means fostering open, free-flowing communication and being meticulous stewards of information.
